John 2:13-25

New International Version (NIV)

Jesus Clears the Temple Courts

13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” 17 His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”[a]

18 The Jews then responded to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”

19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”

20 They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body. 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.

23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name.[b] 24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. 25 He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.

Let’s talk about emotions, shall we??

Jesus, in this passage, shows anger; a human emotion. He feels it due to the disrespect of the people in the temple, who were selling their animals in His Father’s house. How would you feel if people broke into your house and started a flea market there??? Not so happy, I’d say.

Emotions, to me, are the most important things in a novel. If a person doesn’t react realistically, then the novel isn’t realistic. Emotions help a person connect to a story. If your characters are emotionless, then so are your readers. If your characters are upset, then so are your readers. Jesus is angry in this passage; so are we. Think about this the next time you write an emotion of your character’s, and make sure it’s completely realistic. How would you feel???

Ewwwwwww Blood

So I when to the X-RAY DOCTOOOOOR today, and she said I might have a slight scoliosis, or possibly lyme disease. So I got X-rays in my pelvis bone (one of the hip bones), back, and neck. Then I went to get BLOOD DRAWN EWWWWW…They had 12 teaspoons of it!!! UGHHH BLOOD MAKES ME WANNA PUUUUKE. They put it in little containers, and he used a small needle so he was drawing blood FOREVER….It was at least 5 minutes. They’re going to check it for lyme, and make sure my other values equal out (white blood cells, red blood cells, other stuff, etc…). So I’ll get the X-ray results back either today, tomorrow, or friday. The lyme stuff will take about 2 weeks.

Wish me luck! (AGHHH one of my drama making friends decided she hates me again because I didn’t play would you rather with her XP RAAAAR she forgets about this stuff within a few days but it really annoys me sometimes that she thinks she can just make drama, be mean to other people, and then come back like nothing’s wrong. She does it for no reason, just for FUN or something. But she doesn’t have any other friends, and she’s actually really nice when she’s not making drama, so…MRAGH. I’m half glad she’s not going to my high school because I don’t think I can deal with the drama anymore; I’ll still call her and stuff next year, but she can’t cause me drama when she’s not physically in front of me)

Bible From a Writer’s Point of View #6

Sorry this is late, I forgot on Sunday XP

(bible stolen from biblegateway.com)

2 After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. 3 His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. 4And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.

5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 6 (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)

7 Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”

8 Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.

9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10 They kept the matter to themselves, discussing what “rising from the dead” meant.

Rising from the dead is used quite a lot in this passage. Moses and Elijah were risen from the dead in this passage, and Jesus told the disciples not to tell anyone about the transformation until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. (AKA Jesus)

Rising from the dead is also used in different stories; The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe; Heaven Is For Real; etc. There are tons of videos around about people who had near-death experiences; meaning they went to heaven/hell and came back. It’s a strong thing to use in a novel, and I myself have used “rising from the dead”(though not fully, only in dreams does the person see their dead loved one, etc.) in my novels. It makes people connect to the main character that much more, because what others want so badly (for their loved ones to come back) is happening to someone else, and it gives the reader hope. 🙂

(AN UPDATE ON MAH HEALTH FOR Y’ALLS: I have a low-grade fever which I think has probably been there for a long time- since my legs started hurting- but my mom is keeping me home from school anyway. Also, my X-ray appointment was moved to wednesday. See ya later!!!)

Weird Spine???

I went to the physical therapist today, and apparently one of the bones in my spine is bigger than the others, so I have to go to the orthopedist to get an X-ray. She also said that my neck, shoulder, and arm pain may be caused by posture, so I have to do neck exercises to get my posture back. (on the plus side, I get a rolling backpack and I get to use my school’s elevator because I can’t put that stress on my back or shoulders right now)

I’m probably going to get an X-ray sometime tomorrow, friday, or over the weekend. I’ll keep you guys updated 🙂

Bible From A Writer’s Point of View #5

Heyyyyyyyyy!!! It’s time forrrrrr….THE BIBLE FROM A WRITER’S POINT OF VIEW #5!!!!

That name’s a mouthful, it should be something shorter, like…BFWPV!!!!! Or something….tell me what name it should be shortened to 😛

(this weeks gospel was stolen from biblegateway.com….AGAIN)

12 At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, 13 and he was in the wilderness forty days, being temptedby Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.

Jesus Announces the Good News

14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”

Let’s talk about temptation, shall we?

Temptation hindered everyone since the beginning; Adam and Eve were tempted by Satan (the snake in the garden) to eat the forbidden apple, Cain (I think it was Cain who killed Abel…right? Something like that) was tempted to kill Abel, and we are all tempted in life to do things that you shouldn’t. From eating too many sweets when you know you’re not supposed to *coughcough ME coughcough* to the actual murder of another person. It represents the Devil in our lives, the challenges we must overcome.

But overcoming temptation gives us something much greater; strength. Think about how it would be to be able to come over temptation easily instead of fighting against it day by day. Fighting it day by day makes us stronger; through each victory, temptation gets easier and easier to overcome. So let’s work on overcoming temptation with our awesome powers, y’all.

(sorry this wasn’t too write-y, I couldn’t think of anything)

ON ANOTHER NOTE, I’m going to the physical therapist on wednesday to find out what’s wrong with my legs; they’re still hurting all of the time, and when they hurt more then sometimes the rest of my body hurts as well, and I have headaches all of the time, and I’m tired, and….yeah. 😛 So I’ll tell you what happens on wednesday 🙂

Just Chillin’ Like Strawberry Fillin’

Sorry. I stole that catchphrase from my cousin. I’m a despicable persoooooon….(oh, who cares, I steal things all the time. It’s not like I’m a psychopath….yet…)

ANYWAY, loads of things have happened since I’ve last checked in with y’all!!! (whoa. I’m using that word a lot now. Sorry Scylls, it’s my catchphrase now…again with the stealing)

(I LURVE parenthesis, don’t you????)

I’ll make a list because that’s how I roll:

1. I’m going to go to a physical therapist next wednesday because of my leg pains; they’ve sort of grown to everywhere, and I get headaches all of the time, and I’m tired all of the time, too, and it’s just…BLEGH. So, hopefully I’ll figure out what it is soon. (I’m desperately hoping it’s not fibromyalgia; it’s probably not, I’m just a super paranoid person)

2. I finally caught up with Castle (the TV show. Yeaaaaaah. That’s right.) so now I’m looking forward to the new episode tomorrow and AHHHHH I WANT TO SEE IT OR I’LL EXPLODE!!! (Castle’s sort of like NCIS, but the main character is a famous author who hangs around a female cop and he writes about her in his novels, and there’s this huge mystery about who killed her mom, and it’s just SUPER AWESOME!!!!)

3. I’ve officially failed my plans for editing. AGAIN. I’m on chapter 8 or 9, and I think there’s going to be about 25 chapters. (I’m adding a few chapters along the way whilst I edit) It was supposed to be done by the end of January. I’ve decided; if I can’t finish this edit by March 10th, then I won’t eat anything sugary or delicious for the next week besides enough to make sure I don’t die. (so…one cookie. or two. or three. or…)

5. I’m doing a bit of renovation on my blog, so don’t be scared if it’s different. 😛

The Bible From A Writer’s Point of View #4

Hey y’all! Let’s get this show on the road!!!

(today’s gospel was stolen from http://www.biblegateway.com)

1 A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. 2 They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. 3 Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. 4 Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. 5When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

6 Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, 7 “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

8 Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? 9 Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? 10 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, 11 “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 12 He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

His friends took him to see Jesus. Who were they? What were their lives like? Why did they risk taking their friend to Jesus, when anything could happen? They broke through a roof to get to Jesus; to get their friend healed. They lowered him into the room and had such faith that Jesus healed him. Let’s examine their characteristics, shall we?

First off, they were faithful. Jesus already explained that to us. What was their faith driven by? The fear that their friend would die? The love of their friend that they wanted him desperately to be healed? Or just plain old hope?

Second, they must have a strong ability to love. They were willing to risk their lives on the top of Jesus’ roof to get help for their friend. They loved their friend, and they wanted him to be able to move again so much; their love was great.

One other thing I’m wondering is where they (his friends) went after the paralytic stood up and walked away. Were they still on the roof? Did they jump off and go with their friend?

This, to me, is the true story of friendship.

The Bible from a Writer’s Point of View #3

Sorry I didn’t put one up last week, I was so busy with everything I just sorta forgot XP So yeah, here’s the one for today!!!

(graciously borrowed but not being returned from http://www.biblegateway.com)

40 A man with leprosycame to him and begged him on his knees, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.”

41 Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” 42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed.

43 Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: 44 “See that you don’t tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.” 45 Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.

You know what I’m going to talk about? Touch.

Jesus always touched people to heal them; why not just say a few magic words and let them be healed? Touching shows interaction, it shows love. Think about your own life; a careful, soothing stroke on your back when you’re sick, a touch of the lips (aka a kiss but in fancier words) when you’re married, or even just a first kiss with the love of your life, etc.

You usually don’t let people that you don’t know or like touch you. (except when getting foot massages…or pedicures…or…) Jesus touched a complete stranger, risking getting sick, and showed his love. He showed that he loves the leper so much that he will take away his life of suffering and give him a leprosy free life. Think about how just one simple touch can show that much love. 🙂

The Bigger Picture

This song basically describes how I’ve been feeling today.

I feel like I don’t really do anything good; like I’m “going through the motions” instead of working to make the world better. I feel like all I do is just work on schoolwork, write my novels, and sit around. To be honest, none of that stuff can help people’s lives except my own.

What can I do to make the world better???

I’ve been thinking about this all day; the only thing I could think of was trying my best to make others feel better through small actions. I can’t think of anything else that I can do to make a difference…what about you guys? What do you do to make the world better? How should I help others????

Leg Pains :(

Ughhhhh….I’ve been having really bad leg pains for the past week (since the 23rd) and I don’t know how to make them stop. I told my mom on tuesday, but she said it was just from exercise or something. But it can’t be from exercise because its been going to for almost a week! And it can’t be growing pains because a) Advil doesn’t work and b) my pains are all the time (mainly during the day, but I still have them at night, not as much) and rowing pains are usually evening/night things.

Advil doesn’t work, so I’ve just been having to live with it. Today’s been the worst, I almost started crying it hurt so much. UGHHH WHY WON’T THIS STUPID PAIN GO AWAY

If I still have pains tonight, I’m going to ask my mom what to do because I can’t deal with it. It hurts more when I exercise, and I’m going to have swim early this week, and…RARRRRRR.

On the bright side, this is giving me more time to edit…I’m in the middle of chapter 7 right now. Editing is crazyyyyyy, there’s so much more stuff I’m adding (which is good right now, because my word count was a little low; you’re supposed to have closer to 60,000 to 80,000 usually, and mine was about 45,000, soooo…) Only 7 days left for editing AHHHHH I’M LESS THAN A THIRD DONE AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its super edit day 🙂

OK, bye guys. I’ll keep you updated on this evil leg thang.
